Rates & Logistics
for Philosophical Counseling with Monica Vilhauer
My aim is to make philosophical counseling as accessible as I can.
I use a sliding scale to calculate the rate of a one-hour session for you. A session costs between $50 and $150, depending on your household income.
To calculate your rate, take your household income (including your income and that of your significant other or spouse, if relevant) and multiply by .1%. So, if your household income is $60,000 a year, multiply by .001, and your rate is $60 for an hour-long session.
I recommend starting with 3 sessions (once a week) to give us enough time to dive into the process and unpack the immediate issues you want to discuss.
Where We Meet
If you are in Portland, OR, we can reserve the private side conference room at World Cup Coffee in NW Portland for our sessions. If you are not in Portland (or have trouble getting downtown during the day), we can hold our session via Skype, Zoom, or phone. It is important, though, that you have a quiet and private place on your end to talk, so you can speak freely during our sessions with minimal interruptions. (I do get that interruptions sometimes happen in this format — a knock on the office door, the dog barking at the mailman — we just want to minimize them so you can focus on you!)
If you cancel your session less than 24 hours in advance, I will not be able to fill your spot and will have to charge you for your session. If you need to cancel, please do so as far in advance as possible (a week in advance is preferred). If you need to shift the time of your session, I may be able to accommodate, so please ask before cancelling.
At this time, I only offer philosophical counseling for adults (who are at least 18 years of age).
Directly after our session, I will email you a PayPal invoice that allows you to pay by credit card online. If we meet in person, you are welcome to pay by cash or check.
